We
provide a packet of information for our guests, but below are a few snippets of
some of our favorite things to do………..if you want our opinion!
We
would be happy to answer any questions you may have at 404.966.4405.
The
Beach
St.
Simons Island has glorious beaches that can stretch out for hundreds of yards at
low tide. A few areas, however,
south of the King and Prince Hotel, with so-called “ocean views,” have rock
sea walls and little or no actual beach. For the best beach on the island, be
careful to rent a home north of the King and Prince Hotel.
Atlantus
by the Sea is located at the largest part of the St. Simons beaches, just south
of East Beach and the old Coast Guard Station. This is the finest beach on
the island. Our high tide has ample beach for body surfing and our low tide
expands the beach to couple of hundred yards wide. There is no better part
on the island for beach fun than the beach at Atlantus by the Sea and Coast
Cottages.
Golf
If
not for the beach, golf would be king on St. Simons Island and the surrounding
area. We have three golf clubs on the island and 234 holes of golf in the
immediate area.
Atlantus’
guests play at Sea Palms 27-hole course at a 20% courtesy discount.
Bicycles
This is
one of our favorite family activities. Atlantus has two adult bicycles and
three children’s bicycles for our guests’ use. Paved trails take you
from Coast Cottages to the center of town or to the pier. Additional bikes
can be rented five minutes by foot from Atlantus at Ocean Motion or in town at
Monkey Wrench. Visit http://www.oceanmotion.biz/pages/main.html
or call Monkey Wrench at 912.634.5551.
Horseback
Riding
Trotting
on horseback on the beach at sunset is a beautiful thing! Beginners or
experienced riders can trot or ramble on Driftwood Beach and along island trails
from 10:30 AM to 6:00 PM by making reservations at 912.635.9500.
Dining
St.
Simons Islands has many wonderful places for seafood, casual and fine dining,
but our favorite fine dining restaurant on the island is Halyards.
Halyards,
winner of the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence, is proud to offer
complimentary desserts to Atlantus’ guests for vacations of less than one week
and a complimentary bottle of wine with dinner for a stay of one or more weeks.
We will send you a gift certificate a few weeks before your stay at
Atlantus.
Visit
them on line for menus and special events at http://www.halyardsrestaurant.com.
Fishing
You can
get your rod and bait at St. Simons Bait and Tackle near the pier – a five
minute ride from Atlantus – and drop line at the pier or you can charter a
boat with Captain Richie Lott for in shore or off shore fishing for Grouper,
Snapper, Spanish Mackerel, Cobia, Redfish, Sea Bass, Whiting, Flounder, Tarpon,
Shark and King Mackerel. We highly recommend Captain Lott at Coastal Island
Fishing, located at Golden Isles Marina, as the best fishing guide on St. Simons
Island.
We are pleased to offer our guests a 20% discount off Charter Fishing's regular
rates when staying at Atlantus. For more information, visit Captain Lott as http://www.charterfish.net
Sailboats
On
the beach, under the gold umbrella, just a three-minute walk from Atlantus,
Barry’s Beach Service rents catamarans, sailboats, kayaks, boogie boards and
windsurfing boards. Sailboat rides and lessons are also available.
Visit http://www.oceanmotion.biz/beach.html for more information.
Jet-Skiing
Offered
by Coastal Water Sports at Island Dive Center within the Golden Isles Marina.
These water motorbikes can seat Dad and two siblings. Reservations are
available at 912.638.6590.
Scuba
Diving
While
few think of Coastal Georgia when they think of scuba, visibility increases to
75 feet a few miles off shore. Wreck diving on the 441’ Liberty Ship is
greeted by angelfish, barracuda and loggerhead turtles. Gray’s Reef, 17 miles
off Sapelo Island, is one of only twelve National Marine Sanctuaries. Lessons
leading to PADI certification are also available. Visit http://www.islanddivecenter.com
or call Island Dive Center at 912.638.6590 for reservations and more
information.
Water
Park
Located
on Jekyll Island and a twenty-minute ride from Atlantus. Ride the wave
pool, cruise the slides or relax in the pool from May 10 to September 7.

Casino
Cruises

dinner for guests 18 and older! She sets sail from downtown Brunswick. Visit http://www.emeraldprincesscasino.com or call 888.842.0115 for more information.
Fort
Frederica, St. Simons Light House and Christ Church
Built
in 1736, 1807 (initially) and the 1700s, respectively, these island treasures
provide an historical perspective of colonial and Civil War era Georgia.
………….of course
there are trolley tours, ghost tours, dolphin tours, kayaking and much more to
do on St. Simons Island!
