Atlantus by the Sea, was proud to have been chosen for the 52nd Annual Sea Island and St. Simons Island Home and Garden Tour held March 19, 2005.

Atlantus is part of the 44 private home Coast Cottages community on St. Simons Island, Georgia which is  located next to the Historic Coast Guard Station and East Beach. Coast Cottages is a neo-classical community with paved brick roads, two private pools, pool pavilion, bathhouse and private gated access to the beach.

St. Simons Island is the largest of the Golden Isle group off of Brunswick, Georgia, easily accessible from I-95, a 5 hour drive from Atlanta, one hour south of Savannah and one hour north of Jacksonville, Florida. Direct flights are available on Delta to Brunswick, Savannah and Jacksonville.

"As large as Manhattan, with more than 14,000 year-round residents, St. Simons is the Golden Isles' most complete resort destination.  Accelerated development has failed to spoil the natural beauty of the island's regal live oaks, beaches and salt marshes.

Visits are highlighted by swimming and sunning, golfing, biking, hiking, horseback riding, touring historic sites and feasting on fresh local seafood at more than 50 restaurants."

Atlantus by the Sea uses only the finest finishes, fabrics, furnishings, linens and decorative accessories for your enjoyment and comfort.  Atlantus couples antiques with the technological advances of today to create beauty and old world charm with the comfort and sophistication of modern times.

Some of the antiques are worth mentioning because of their special place in history. The 18th century stained glass foyer window is from one of the oldest churches in  New Castle, England.  It symbolizes a time when the locals asked God to protect and fortify their man-made structures against the fury of  wind and sea.  Each first floor bath in Atlantus sports the Atlantus coat of arms and carries a symbolic word from the 18th century foyer window in a second humble request for harmony between Atlantus and the sea.

"Rarely do things meet expectations.  Atlantus exceeded expectations. Our kids don't want to leave! We had a great week. "

Atlantus boasts fine hand carved mirrors and side tables.  Antique bronze and oil rubbed bronze hardware have been used throughout the house.  The hand carved antique newel post at the base of the stairs, columns flanking the first floor parlor  and mirror archway above the main stone fireplace come from India and are over 150 years old.  The main entrance oak door  is 18th century  and the original hardware has been refurbished and operates as it did  years ago in France.

St. Simons Island and the surrounding area offer something for every member of your family.  Atlantus is located on the largest part of the beach on the island.  Bike trails, antique shops, fine dining, charter boat fishing, fly fishing, jet skiing, kayaking, horse back riding, dolphin tours, dinner theater and 234 holes of golf are some of the activities you can enjoy.  While not widely known, scuba diving is available in waters with visibility to 100 feet just a few miles off shore.  Lessons leading to certification can be arranged. Near-by Jekyll Island, a twenty minute drive, has a family water park. Remnants of the 300 plus year old English Fort Frederica  still stand and can be toured to learn about the battle with the Spanish called "Bloody Marsh." .

Some of the surrounding golf and tennis resorts that are available to Atlantus' guests include: Sea Palms, Laurel Island Links, Oak Grove Island, Sapelo Hammock, Coastal Pines and Jekyll Island Golf Course.

"We loved your beach house and cannot say enough
good things about our time in St Simons. I had already thought about writing you to say thanks and see if we could rent again
next year! If this is
possible go ahead and put us down for the same
week next year."
